Split Area

Dear Family and Friends,

Well, well, well … another week? are you serious? This is seriously getting out of control. I’m getting to the point where every week just seems like a blur and time is just going faster and faster and faster and faster and faster and faster and faster and faster…….

Well this week was a good one.. like I said last week I’m just trying to improve all the time and fix problems and progress all the time but I already bored all of y’all with all that talk last week so let me just tell you how people are doing!!!

Oscar Bazan

We were able to catch Oscar Bazan this week. I can’t remember if I told y’all. He is an investigator that has been being taught for a little bit. Actually, he is married to a member who has been recently reactivated, Kattya. By the way, Kattya is also the sister of Elder Sorenson’s fiancee! So we have been teaching Elder Sorenson’s soon-to-be brother-in-law, really. Oscar has pretty much been taught everything and he is good to go for baptism. The only problem is he is involved at the police academy and it is just sucking his time away. He said he wishes he had started listening to the missionaries before or after the academy because he just has no time while he is involved with it. So we talked about his baptism and what he wants to do and he told us that he wants to get back into the habit of reading everyday and coming to church every week before he gets baptized. So that’s really good because it means that he is taking it seriously right? He also said that he wants to wait for Kattya’s parents to come up to the U.S. from Peru. They will be coming for Elder Sorenson’s wedding in August. So… I may not even be here. But he has been reading every day and he came to a session of conference and took us out to eat sushi after. And I love sushi. So everything’s cool.

Flor

Here is the official update on Flor. We went back for our appointment on Wednesday with the only member who lives out in Splendora (it is pretty far away, but he is a really solid member – on the high council and all). Turns out Flor is quite the talker! I hope you don’t misunderstand me when I say that I felt like a bit of a “Dr. Phil” haha. But there’s lots of times when I feel that way. She just barely knows us and yet she was telling us her whole life story… which isn’t a bad thing but it makes it hard to teach! But we have seen her a couple of times this week and we were able to teach the restoration. She seems to understand it! She has had a really hard life, but she is a great lady. So open and so trusting. She drove all the way down to the last session of conference, where the first speaker she got to hear was Elder Holland! She was honest, she got a little sleepy, but said that she did like it. Things are going well with her. The only bad news is that our area is getting split next week. So they are going to put new sisters in there and we will not be able to teach her anymore. But I’m sure she will be fine. Maybe sisters will be better for her.

District Leadering

Oh yeah, by the way, if I stay as the district leader in this area, my plate is going to be pretty full next transfer. We are getting two new sister areas, which means a total of four brand new sisters. And since there aren’t enough sisters to train them, they will be training themselves. Which means lots of fun for me!!!!! haha it will be interesting that’s for sure.

Noelia and Daisy

One more thing. In Denver Harbor, right before I got there last year, a family was found during the Hour of Power and baptized. The mother of the family referred missionaries to her daughter (Noelia) and her family, who live in the area I am in now. After a while, the Noelia and her son were baptized. She has a 15 year old daughter who’s name is Daisy who the missionaries have been teaching for a while. She has been taught all of the lessons, been visited by President Crawford, comes to church, reads the Book of Mormon, but will not be baptized because she says she hasn’t felt anything. She is a sweet girl and really sincere, I can tell. Maybe she is a bit of a teenager, but she really seems to care more than most. We have been teaching her as well. When we talk to her, I feel like I am talking to my daughter or something. haha it’s really weird. But I just want to shake her and say, “DAISY!!! THIS WILL BLESS YOUR LIFE FOREVER!!!” Just keep her in your prayers so that she will receive an answer.

General Conference

So anyway… wasn’t conference boss!? I’ll answer that for all y’all. It was!! Holy cow I think conference is 10x better when you’re a missionary. I can’t wait to watch conference together with a lovely lady one day and learn how we can strengthen our lives together. Anyway… Elder Holland is and always will be my favorite (are we allowed to have favorites?)

So that’s it for this week really! I am going to attach something that I recorded on my digital recorder. We were a little early for conference so I started messing around a little bit on the piano with the song “That Easter Morn.” It’s my favorite Easter song. I can’t hear that song and not feel the Spirit. The music and letters humble me and remind me of the sacrifice and resurrection of the Savior. I love that song. I made a few mistakes, and it was really just freestyle messing around, but I really tried to bear my testimony of the Savior through that song. So I hope y’all like it. I have always thought that the best way for me to express myself personally is through music. I hope you can feel it with this.

Anyway….. Love you!!!

Elder Viitanen
