Dear Families of the Great Missionaries of T.H.E. Mission,
Last month I mentioned the mission set goals for June through September convert baptisms and reactivations. Our goal is to generate 345 more people attending sacrament meeting through baptism and reactivation for that time period. We set a half way goal of 168 more people attending sacrament meeting by the end of July. I am pleased to report that as of the end of July our total was 215. We were pleased with the results and enthusiasm of the mission. We celebrated achieving our half way goal by bringing the mission together for two P-day gatherings (half the mission one day and half the next) for lunch and “Mission Olympic Events.” While we could not have chosen a hotter time of the year to hold our Mission Olympic Events outdoors, your sons and daughters had a wonderful time. Sister Crawford had an equally wonderful time, but I realized that I am too old to have so much fun on two successive days! We could not have enjoyed ourselves more with these great young men and women. We love this group of missionaries.
I will also tell you that I really like the feeling and spirit in the mission at this time. I sense a great humility within the missionaries. They are really trying to fulfill their purpose as servants of the Lord in this part of His vineyard. We have our challenges and difficulties, but we love these missionaries and are so proud of them.
I cannot encourage you enough to help lift them in your letters. Some of our missionaries receive rare letters from home. It breaks my heart to hear of these situations. They need your support. At the same time your support should be upbeat and encouraging. I would focus on spiritual events in your life and the lives of your family. Share your learning from the scriptures as a way to augment their learning. I promise you that your son or daughter will be the most happy when they are focused on their work and less on what is going on back home.
Sister Crawford and I thank you for your love and support not only of your missionary but for all the missionaries of the Texas Houston East Mission. We thank you and we love you for your sacrifices for the work. You can be proud of your son or daughter. We certainly are proud of them.
My best to you and your family.
President Crawford
