A Close Call

Dear Family and Friends,

Not too much to talk about this week. We were really excited because we were SOOOOO CLOSE!!!! to reaching all our goals and pulling off a perfect week (which doesn’t happen very often, in fact, it’s never happened to me) but in the end, everything kind of fell apart.

Happy Fathers Day!

I wanted to get this out last week but couldn’t. This song reminds me of my great dad. I got to play it at the ward party for father’s day. A little shaky, but the message is there. Love you!

Exchanges with Zone Leaders

We had exchanges with our zone leaders this week. I love Elder Shepherd. I love elders who have a good balance of fun and work. It’s perfect. We got along really well and had a great day.

We had a lesson with Jackie and Elder Shepherd started asking her all these questions. It went well. She straight up told us that she wont come to church though because she doesn’t want to be confused for now. But she said “guys, when the time comes. I will be baptized, and I will be sure it is with the proper authority.”

During our lesson, she was talking and she just looked at me and said, “Elder Viitanen, you just GET me. You know me.” it was pretty cool. Man, Jacky’s awesome. I just want her to get baptized!

She also prayed so that I wouldn’t get transferred haha. They are moving this weekend though to Denver Harbor. Which is where Elder Bruneel is at so he will definitely be good for her! We are going to help her move.

Well.. I GOT MY BIKE BACK!!! So happy! It was running like a baby… and then I got a flat tire in twenty minutes. Words cannot express how frustrated I was. Am I destined to have bike troubles?

Aguileras

The Aguileras are doing good! They’ve been reading and praying every night together as a family!

Investigators

As far as investigators.. we have this family that came to a church tour and got to meet half the ward because right after was a baptism for one of the hermana’s investigators. It went really well but they couldn’t come to church.

Transfers?

Well, this is the last week of the transfer. And I am pretty sure it’s my last here in Channelview. It’s crazy. This place is hard but I don’t want to leave. I’ve been here three transfers though and 3 months with Elder Worrell so I’m pretty sure I’m out. I’ll let y’all know next week!

We went to a food bank and helped out for a while.. it was way fun. We helped a lot. A lot of the stuff there came from our church! haha it was funny everyone love us there because of it. All the boxes said Salt Lake on them. And there was a lot of peanut butter from the church plant here in H-Town. Also… there were a bunch of products from my very own LEHI ROLLER MILLS!! It was awesome! I’ll send a picture next week. But it made me miss Lehi a little bit. It was so cool to see that little bit of home all the way out in the ghetto of Cloverleaf!”

An Accident

The other night, we were driving back home and we were way tired and a serious accident happened right in front of us! A truck and a car t-boned and ended up in the ditch. First, I thanked God that they missed us and then we got out to help. There were 6 kids without seat belts in the car… people got out of the vehicles with broken bones and stuff just laying on the side of the road and screaming in pain, it was crazy. Someone in the car wasn’t responding. The good news about the black community is everyone helps everyone, so everyone came out and helped. We did everything we could, directing traffic, comforting children, till the ambulance came. It was so crazy. No one died, I don’t think but.. it just makes you think. In one second it could all be gone, like that.

Anyway, on that depressing note:

HURRAH FOR ISRAEL!!

Love y’all

Elder Viitanen
