Jackie Will Be Baptized on Saturday

Dear Family and Friends,

Today was such a boss week! We had some really good numbers. Even though I know that’s not what matters, it is still really encouraging. Especially in a harder Spanish area like this one that is considered outside of the “Spanish Land” of our mission. We found six new investigators this week and broke the area record for contacts!

It was pretty sweet!

Working with Elder Van Slooten

On Wednesday, I was on exchanges with Elder Van Slooten, my “grandfather.” We tore it up! It was one of my favorite days so far on the mission! We were outside of our car ALL DAY just talking to people and walking up and down the streets of Houston and the day FLEW by! I was so sad! We ended the day with 16 quality contacts, 5 other lessons and 5 new investigators!

Elder VS and I got along so well, it was like we were best friends or something! We found some sweet places to knock. We played hard while we worked hard. It was just an all around enjoyable day, and we were able to do it will still being purpose-driven missionaries. It was amazing.

Interviews with President Crawford

We had interviews with President Crawford as well. He is such a great man, I dearly love him. We got to talk about a lot. Some of my stresses, some of the investigators I have questions about. He really helped a lot and taught me.

Jackie Will be Baptized on Saturday

Jackie is progressing to baptism! Her date is this Saturday! It’s looking like it is going to go through! (Knock on wood.) We had one huge lesson where we went over all of the commandments and she accepted them readily! She did have  a hard time with coffee, but she quit it cold turkey! She said she was worried about the headaches but we told her that the Lord would bless her if she obeyed this commandment. And quess what? No headaches!! It was awesome!

Also, when we got to tithing I was a little worried because she doesn’t have much. But she said , “people spend money on some really dumb stuff. Why wouldn’t I pay tithing? This church has already done so much for me and it is focused on the family which I really like. Of course I will pay tithing.” Dang! She committed herself! Pretty sweet stuff. She is a little nervous but she said like she feels she is ready. I am excited for her!

Mauricio not Progressing

Her brother Mauricio is a bit more slow. He says that he needs to get closer to God than a religion, and we asked him what he needs to do to get closer to God. One of his answers was prayer. We tried to commit him to pray then, but he said no, because he is scared of the Holy Ghost. We are still trying to work with him and figure out how best to teach him but he is really confused. I think Jackies’ example will help! I’m not sure if I said this last time but she is turning into a little missionary! She said she wants her whole family to be baptized and is inviting them to church and telling them about the book of Mormon! She is a boss!!

Louis is Moving Again

Turns out Louis Juarez is leaving Houston again and going out to North Carolina. He came to church. He asked us if there were missionaries and a church there. He will call us when he gets his address and we will refer some over. He wants to join the church and be baptized. I pray that he will. He is really special to me.

Good Week

Well it’s been a good week! I love you all. The work is going well. I love it here! A big hug to everyone back home! It’s a beautiful day, not too hot or humid, with a nice sea breeze coming in . It feels great. It’s around 75 degrees. this is considered a “cold front”. Oh boy, I can’t wait for summer 🙂 love you guys.
