Pasadena Getting Better

Dear Family and Friends,

Well, things are getting a lot better here in Pasadena. Ok, so our apartment is still filthy and our apartment management people may or may not be on drugs and not helping very much haha. Yeah there is still mold all over the wall and our AC unit but… what can you do? Oh yeah. This week I also had the WORST NIGHT OF MY LIFE! I woke up at like 2 am because it was so hot and I went to turn on the AC and then when I got back in bed all I could hear was our Saudi Arabian neighbors upstairs yelling and screaming at each other in Arabic. It was like, three dudes it sounded like. And it sounded like one of them was in pain. Anyway, I got to listen to whatever that conflict was for about 3 hours and couldn’t fall asleep. It was wonderful.

Julianna

As far as the area I think we are doing really well. I don’t know what the heck was going on over here before this transfer but things are really coming along. This week we had four investigators at church and we have committed 4 people to baptism this month and next month. First is Julianna Saldivar, I think I told y’all a little about her last week. She is dating an 18 year old in our ward. Her parents are Catholic but they are OK with her coming to church and getting baptized. Also, they are from Spain which makes her even cooler. When we taught her the first lesson she said that she had never heard anything like it but that she felt something she had never felt before in Catholic church and she said yes to baptism right away! That will be on the 29 of June. I really hope that she will end up serving a mission or something because she is awesome and that would be so cool! Her boyfriend’s name is Eliud Quintenilla. The Quintenilla family is the coolest family here! They are really awesome haha I like them a lot.

Lorena

Then, there is the son of a recently reactivated member, Lorena Bastida. We are teaching her husband, Angel as well. They are from Guatemala. Angel will take a little longer to progress because he works every Sunday but he is really sincerely interested if knowing if the church is true. Lorena’s son, Alejandro, is nine years old and she wants him baptized asap so he will be baptized on the 29th as well.

Humberto and Claudia Martinez

Also, this couple that came to church last week, Humberto and Claudia Martinez, they are sincerely seeking to know if our message is true and accepted a baptismal date for July 14th. They are really interested in a lot that the church teaches especially about being sealed as a family forever. That really interested them. They are awesome!!

Elder Fryer

And Elder Fryer… well let me tell you I have laughed harder this week than I think I have laughed in a long time. Elder Fryer is a funny guy. He actually isn’t as strange as I first thought. He is different, don’t get me wrong, but who isn’t? He is pretty dang hilarious. Seriously, I am NOT joking when I say this kid needs to be a stand-up comedian haha.

Biking

I am enjoying being on a bike again. And I must say.. it’s good that I’m on a bike because this last week I caved and I went back to my old flour tortilla addiction. But it’s ok… only for a week. This week has had some interesting weather. We will just be biking along in the sun and humidity and then all of a sudden… HUGE LIGHTNING STORM! haha seriously on Thursday I thought I was in the middle of a hurricane. Texas lightning and thunder is like nothing else I have ever seen. It rocks the earth… it’s really weird to explain. It’s like a light show in the sky and an earthquake at the same time. It’s pretty legit. So needless to say during one of these such storms it was pretty rainy (and when I say pretty rainy I mean I was swimming). We are biking through this decently nice area and this white guy with a huge white beard and coke bottle glasses, and a classic yellow rain jacket runs out to us and goes, “come in, come in!” so we did. His name was Richard Metcalf. He is a genius. I guess he is like a world famous meteorologist and scientist and he was also involved in a bunch of political or anti-conspiracy stuff. Anyway, he told us about all of his crazy scientific expeditions and showed us his three doctorates while the rainstorm passed. He was really nice. He gave us some special blankets to “warm up” and made us some sourdough buiscuits with some hot gatorade … I don’t really know why. I was wet, but it was pretty warm. I mean, come on, it’s Texas. Then he goes, “I’ll be right back! I need to observe the circulations in this storm!” He comes back in and tells us about all of this crazy conspiracy theory stuff and how he is going to get back at the people who did him wrong and what not. It was pretty interesting. He said he has some “evidence” or something to prove that the “alphabet agencies” are corrupt. Whatever that means. Anyway, when the rain let up we got the heck out of there haha. He was a super nice guy but he was boring me to death. Until at the end of our conversation he said, “you may want to invest in a sunday paper tomorrow. Just to let you know.” So now I am curious to know if something happened! I don’t know if he is a genius, or just crazy, but he also said when we left, “see you all later. and to all of those unwanted listeners who may have been listening in to our conversation, I hope you have a good day.” I don’t know. hahahaha we tried to talk to him about the gospel but he said he just isn’t ready for that right now. #wetried

Anyway. things are going good. this email is getting really long, and pday is wasting. I came on my mission to do two things: preach the gospel, and play basketball. And… it’s basketball time. So… bye! #thechurchistrue

oh yeah, someone please look up richard metcalf.

Love

Elder Viitanen
